Dean Campbell has been spending time in the outdoors for longer than he can remember. Childhood was filled with canoe trips and car camping adventures. Dean got involved in Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, and Venturers. During his teens, Dean worked as part of the Ontario Ranger program, maintaining portages and campsites in the northern reaches of Algonquin Park.
Dean Campbell’s first career was in outdoor recreation, working in parks and recreation programs and bike shops. He spent two years working as trail crew for Conservation Halton, and was a volunteer Trail Crew Leader for the City of Toronto. Dean travelled from Cairo to Cape Town as staff for the Tour d’Afrique, crossing through the Sahara desert, Simian mountains, Serengeti plains, and the Kalahari.
Over the last decade, Dean has worked as a writer, photographer, and producer. He has brought a keen sense of storytelling and a visual mind while working for CTV and CBC on three Olympic Games. He is nationally and internationally published as a writer, and has recorded two podcast episodes for the Dirtbag Diaries. Dean still spends most of his free time outside year-round, going on local and far-flung adventures with his dog Bryson – named for Bill Bryson, author of “A Walk in the Woods.” Dean serves as a director on the board for IMBA Canada, and has volunteered to teach biking skills and lead snowshoe outings with Trips for Kids Ottawa.
