Features & Functionality

VAUDE Trekking backpacks have complex and robust suspension systems that effectively transfer heavy loads to your hips. Since trekking requires you to take along all the necessary gear such as a tent, sleeping bag and pad, stove and food, it’s important to distribute your packed load well. A wide range of access options makes it easier to organize your gear. Things that need to be kept close at hand can be stowed away in outer pockets or attached with straps.

Front access to the main compartment

Some VAUDE trekking backpacks (models: Asymmetric, Brentour, Astrum EVO) feature an additional front opening. This makes it much easier to load and unload the backpack.

Poles and ice axe attachments

You usually don’t need your ski poles or ice tools all the time. A lot of the time, they’ll need to be stowed securely on your pack.

All of our trekking packs have a place to store your poles. Insert telescopic poles into the loops provided at the lower end of the pack and then use the hook to attach the shaft.

Trekking backpacks have a practical ice axe attachment feature. Insert the shaft completely through the loop, turn the axe upside down and then secure the shaft with the hook.

Attachment straps

If there’s not enough space in your pack, functional straps or loops in the front and on the lid of the backpack allow additional material to be attached using carabiners and tension straps. If necessary, heavy objects should be fastened to the lid in a horizontal position. Lighter gear can be attached using straps to front of the bottom compartment or the front opening.

Side stretch pocket(s)

All VAUDE trekking backpacks have one or more side stretch pockets. They serve as storage space for small items such as raincoats, caps, tissues or gloves. If there are two side pockets, you should try to keep the weight about the same in both.

Volume expansion

If you want to store clothes or other gear safely, you can expand the volume of your pack. The volume of the main compartment of VAUDE trekking backpacks can be increased by about 8-20 liters (depending on the model). Just loosen the expansion straps.

Removable lid compartment

Sometimes you need more headroom, like for climbing. In this case, you can also completely remove the backpack lid. Just detach the straps completely and take off the lid. Sometimes the lid can also be used as a small backpack (model: Skarvan) or as a wash bag or sling bag (model: Astrum EVO).

Hip belt pockets

VAUDE trekking backpacks have a large pocket on the hip belt for things that you need easy access to, but that still need to be well protected, such as your phone.

Hydration system compatibility

Of course, you also need to stay hydrated when you’re trekking. Therefore all of our trekking backpacks are hydration system compatible. Depending on the backpack model, there are different options for attaching the hydration bladder to the pack and guiding the drinking tube outwards. The compartment is always placed close to your back so the weight of your fluids doesn’t influence your center of gravity.
